New Memoir By Kirkcudbright Family

Posted on Thursday, 22 July 2010 11:05AM by Jayne Baldwin
In 2004, within a month of her 101st birthday, Freda Gordon-Hall died in Palnackie near Kirkcudbright. She left behind her an extraordinary memoir written many years before during her retirement. Her dream of having the memoir published has finally been realised through her son Robert Crewdson who carefully edited the lengthy manuscript. Working with Solway's sister company GC Books, Mr Crewdson has now published the work under the title of 'Part of the Garment.' Through her remarkably candid and perceptive memories, Freda observed the difficulties of her parents mismatched marriage. Her mother was an artist, bohemian and suffragist; her father a decorated career soldier. With a wonderful eye for detail Freda recalls her childhood in Edwardian London and Canada. 'Part of the Garment' makes fascinating reading and gives an insight into a world now lost to living memory.
'Part of the Garment' by Freda Gordon-Hall is available from Solway Books price £14.50.
