Wigtown Spring Festival

Posted on Monday, 09 April 2012 12:06PM by Jayne Baldwin
Whatever the weather there will be something to entertain, engage or enlighten you at this year's Wigtown Spring Festival
which will be held in the town on the 5th and 6th of May 2012.
For the second year the event has been organised by the Association of Wigtown Booksellers chaired by Solway Books
Director Beverley Chadband. Beverley said: "The town's booksellers have put together a packed programme that focuses celebrating
the best of what Galloway has to offer in terms of writing, creativity and fun."
A number of events have been arranged by GC Books, sister company of Solway Books. Kirkcudbright author David Collin
will be talking about the extraordinary journey of The Prince of Denmark, a vessel that was built in the writer's home town.
James McCarthy, who has written about Galloway hero Patrick Stewart, will be presenting the subject of his latest biography, "That
Curious Fellow Captain Basil Hall." If you've ever wondered about the many motes, towers and ancient structures in the region then
author of 'The Castles of Galloway' Richard Smith will probably have the answers.
Poetry also features in the programme and the staff at G C Books are delighted to support two events highlighting the work
of two of Scotland's leading poets. Hugh McMillan will be in conversation with Hugh Bryden whilst award winning poet and writer
Dorothy Alexander will be talking about her particular interest in experimental poetry.
For those people who prefer to be hands on there are two workshops to allow the creative juices to flow. Aritist and illustrator
Pauline James will be guiding people into their first steps with watercolour painting whilst textile artist Linda Woodfield will be
helping people to create a personal fabric book.
Providing fun and games for young children will be Jayne Baldwin and Pauline James who together created 'The Belties
of Curleywee Farm.'
